Using my receiver as preamp. I don't get it!?
I had a friend that let me borrow his 1000watt stereo power amp for my Cerwin Vega D-9's. Its the kind of power amp that has 2 volume knobs, not the kind that looks like a block and only has an on/off switch. Anyway, I attached the power amp to my A/V receiver through the PRE-OUT FRONT so I can amplify sound on multiple devices like cd, dvd, blu-ray and FM. The annoying part is that I have to crank up the volume on the receiver and THEN gently turn the volume on the power amp. When I get to loud volumes, the receiver shuts off when deep bass hits on the speakers (no sub required for those speakers baby!). The purpose of me having a power amp was to take the load off the receiver. I could simply use the power amp without the receiver but the sound off the receiver is nice.
Something's getting hot. This means that there is a difference in the ohm or amp ratings between the two pieces of equipment.
In short, the amp is too tough for the receiver and is tripping the power supply breaker. You're going to have to wire it downstream or add resistors somewhere.
