How do you record on a vintage 8 Track recorder?
Came across some 8 Track recorders at an estate sale. I am hoping someone can give me some information on them. First, I have many blank tapes and also ones with recorded music on them. Can the ones with music be recorded over similar to a VHS recorder? Also, how exactly do these recorders work? Thanks all.
I owned an 8 track recorder back in the '70s. If I remember right, there is a tab on the cassette somewhere that you pull off to prevent recording over. Look at the difference between pre-recorded and blank tapes.
How do they work?
Pretty crappy really.
Those tapes will be very dry and brittle by now, you will get lots of hiss and back noise.
Depending on the recorder you either provide a stereo input with RCA jacks or in my case there was a switch between the on-board turntable/FM radio to record from those.
Vintage... who'd a thunk it. 8 tracks are 'vintage'.
