What do they mean by "coil" in guitar pickups?
I know that a humbucker pickup is a two coil pickup, or basically a pair of single coil pickups wired together, but what do they mean by "coil"? Is a "coil" the pickup itself? That long thing with the 6 magnets? Is that what they mean by coil?
A pickup is made up of a bobbin, magnets, and wire that is "coiled" around the bobbin. Over the years, the term "coil" has come to mean the wire/magnet/bobbin assembly, though technically it's just the wire.
