How do I set up my stereo, my speakers aren't working (no sound at all)?
Basically the speakers are plugged into the Power Amp which is getting input from the Control Amp which is getting its input from the Stereo Tuner, Cassette, and CD control boxes.
On the Control Amp, it says it is outputting sound, but I hear absolutely none!
I have tried everything to make the speakers work, please help!
If the control amp is indicating that it's putting something out, the break down is between that and the speakers.
Cables are usually my first suspect, but if you're running in stereo, it's going to be a little unusual if both sides (left and right) are down.
For this case, I think I would start at the speakers and work backwards. If you turn the power amp all the way up, can you hear any hiss coming out of the speakers? If you can, then you know that at least the speakers, speaker wire, and the output section of the power amp are working.
If you hear nothing, then disconnect the speakers from the amp. Then take a battery (a 1.5v is fine), and touch the speaker wires to the battery (one to positive, the other to negative). You should hear a single thump from the speaker. If you do, then the speaker and cable are working. If not, then either the speaker or the cable is bad. Replace the cables first (that's cheapest and easiest).
If you've determined that the power amp and speakers are good, then the problem is likely the cable between the control amp and the power amp. If you replace that and there's still a problem, it's the output of the control amp that's bad.
