I just need to know what would be the best power cap for this combo, all i have right now is a stinger 1 farad 20 vdc surge but i want to get a new one unless this one is acceptable
in a nut-shell I'm saying that I don't necessarily think that Cap's are bad or will hinder your performance, and have even used them myself, and better yet: have even seen them perform some seeming miracles on electrical systems that were bound for the junk-yard, but their values in a car audio system, with even the most barely capable electrical system, have yet to be proven by any shake of scientific data. EVERYTHING you hear about Cap's improving yada-yada is hearsay, sellers hype, based on logical assumptions, n' blah. Some make sense but have never been able to show improvements with calculations or measurements of any kind, ever. And, the skinny of it boils down to the most competitive and experienced car audio "tweakers" out there: the world class SPL competitors, NONE of whom you will EVER find running capacitors of any kind, even the Alumapro CAP that is said to be the best money can buy. Caps can actually lower your line voltage at the amp because they are constantly discharging and recharging during play/loads.
But, I'll play along for a sec'. Assuming that all the Cap fanboiz are right and that the sales gimicks are correct, 1F is good for 1000 Watts, which is twice what you're pushing with the 500/1. You obviously do not need a bigger Cap. What you may need are some electrical system tweaks instead (sell that Cap and take it out of the mix... check another of my responses for details that I won't get into again just now).
I know you said you "just need to know ... " but I should throw in: I have used Type X 12"s and was not satisfied until I was feeding them well over 1000Watts RMS each, from a VERY serious electrical system feeding an even more serious Mmats D3000.1 amp. When they hit their sweet spot they became the best sound quality subwoofers I had ever heard, in 20 years of car audio and pro installer a decade ago. However, they were never super-loud (efficiency issue). If you want loud, go with a different sub. If you want good, throw some more power at your X, it will wake right up. 600Watts absolute minimum RMS for a Type X 12".
