I was diagnosed 2 years ago with ARVC in the USA after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest.....luckily im still here! I had an ICD fitted and just before i moved here i had to have it removed and was wating for a date for the new one to be fitted. I was told by my cardiologist that it was vital i have one fitted asap! However due my husbands work we move to the UK so i went straight to see a Doctor. This GP has refused to refer me onto a cardiologist after he said that the ecg he did was 'normal'. We have gone to another GP who appeared to think that it was also unnesscesary to refer me on to a cardiologist here! This GP has all my medical copies from the USA and now i live in utter fear that i may suffer Another Cardiac arrest.....i am allready getting arrythmias and had two episodes of SVT which i still have meds for.....but i am lost as to what to do!!!.........please if anyone can help please reply!
Your GP needs to refer you to a UK Cardiologist so this can be arranged. All I can suggest is that you see another GP. If you have has a cardiac arrest then the ICD was 100% iindicated.
For patients who have tolerable and non life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias with ARVC, medication can suffice, but for patients who are not inducible, and have had a history of cardiac arrest, an ICD is the most effective intervention in prevention of arrhythmic sudden death.
The usual finding on the ECG is ventricular arrhythmias with LBBB morphology. Perhaps your GP didn't see this and this is why he is querying your original diagnosis? Even if it wasn't present, it doesn't mean you haven't got ARVC. I can't understand why they are refusing a new ICD if he has had your paperwork sent over from the US?
This is quite concerning, you need to see another GP ASAP. Emphasise the fact that you already had one cardiac arrest.
You also need to be under a Consultant who will monitor your right and left ventricular function.
If you leave this question open, I will have a word with Dr. Frank in case there is something I am missing, - I almost feel like I am, but I don't know what.
