How can I add 2 patio speakers to my 5.1 Onkyo HT System and turn off the inside HT speakers when using them?
I have an Onkyo HT-SP904 system but want to use the same receiver to power my two outdoor speakers on the patio. If I get a speaker selector and connect them to the front speakers on the receiver I assume the other three indoor speakers and woofer will be on when I've got the patio speakers selected.
How do I hook this up??? Ideally it would be great to control the volume and on/off of the outdoor speakers and still have the indoor speakers running on some occasions and other times no indoor at all. It would be ok if only the front speakers were on inside when I was using both inside and out, especially if there is separate volume control for one pair.
I know there are selectors with volume controls, but don't know how to make the entire system behave as described above.

There is no A/B speaker switching on this particular receiver.
Most receivers support A and B front speakers. If you hook your patio speakers up to the B circuit and turn the A circuit off it should silence all your indoor speakers and allow you to listen to the outdoor ones. If you turn them both on you can then listen to all speakers. That is how my Sony works, I'd assume your Onkyo is the same.
