Chevy 350 1974 shake?
Okay I have Chevy 1974 with new harmonic balancer, clutch, flywheel, motor and tranny mounts and its all on correct and tuned right. But when I I'm in neutral or any gear the truck shakes and usually bad when it hit 2000 rpm. And after it smooths out and at around 4000 rpm It starts to shake again bad. I can play with the clutch a little bit and smooth it out or even make it worse. I notice the input shaft was going bad when i had the tranny out but could it really cause so much shake and at certin rpm's? Does anyone know what's going on
whats shaking? the motor or the vehicle? first i would check the drive shaft for proper installation, make sure the rear u-joint caps are seated correctly. did you let the caps fall off, or have trouble attaching the rear u-joint? if that's ok check the tranny mount. if the clutch is causing the problem you should be able to feel the vibes through the floor under your feet when its shaking and disengaging the clutch may stop the problem because it unloads the system. if its the vehicle shaking and at different speeds its probably a tire or suspension problem. have you changed tires or rims? jack up the front with both wheels off the ground and rack the wheels back and forth and see if [idler arm] or something is loose. then rack each tire from top to bottom to see if a wheel bearing is bad. by your description it sounds like a tire, suspension combo problem. were you driving the vehicle before the work with out this happening? if so then its something you did to cause the shaking.
