how does a capactor smoothen the rectified ac signal?
i totaly have no clue how it does this as far as i know it blocks dc so how come it eliminates the spikes in a rectified signal? that seems more like blocking ac not dc which contradicts with the rule '' capacitor blocks dc '',
please someone explain

the capacitor charges to the peak value and discharges at a rate determined by the load
