Why do my 'low-energy, long-life' bulbs keep 'blowing'?
I thought that the new, low- energy bulbs were supposed to last longer but some of mine have 'blown' or' fused' (or whatever these bulbs do) after only a few weeks. The base of the tubes turn black and they have a 'burnt' smell. Have I just been unlucky or am I doing something wrong?
I have them in threes, in two rooms, they don't all burn out at once so it's not a power surge, the voltage is OK as they last for weeks.
jayktee9..ah, there is one room where it is a dimmer switch, the 'dimmer' hasn't worked for years it has only been used as an ordinary...on/off. Would this make a difference do you think? If so I'll have to change the switch.

I have fitted thousand of these lamps over the years, I can't say that I've EVER had an early failure. Are you using them with dimmer switches, if so that is what is causing the problem, there are currently only a couple of types suitable for use with standard dimmers. Where are you and what brand of lamps are they????
ADDED>> Because both dimmer and lamp have electronic circuitry, this is not compatible and can cause damage to either or both items. Best to fit an onn/off switch. This does not explain the other early failures, you may have bought a bad batch or they are simply poor quality. Try using branded lamps from Osram/GE/Philips/Sylvania etc.
