How to take out the amp out of an old Stereo Tape player/radio?
I have an old Hitachi stereo cd/tape player/radio and I just want to use it to play music from other sources like my laptop or ipod.
Is it possible to take out just the power amp (+circuitry), maybe put it in another enclosure so I can use it with different speakers?
Probably not without a great deal of hassle - your machine will have separate sections for power supply, tone control and power amp, and they are all designed to work together and with the onboard speakers -take just power amp out and how are you going to match it with your input device, and speakers, not to mention build another power supply ? If you want a small cheap amplifier it'd be a lot easier just buying one off Ebay... If the player has phono sockets for an external device then you could just use it as is if you get the right leads/adaptor. Sometimes you can plug your audio source into the mic. input and set the casette deck to Record, some machines play it thru the amp as a monitor, but some don't. You may find the sound quality leaves something to be desired, but it's worth a try...
