Which is better? Wharfedales or Skytronics?
I have this guy who is convinced his Skytronic speakers are the dogs danglys. I've had a listen to them at high volume and, wasn't too impressed! Now I've had a listen to these Wharfedale XARUS 5000's and the bass is phenomenal. The guy is obsessed with 'watts' and thinks that the higher the watts the better the speakers. My question is, which are better? They'll be played for house parties and small venues.

Oh, the Wharfedales by miles!!!
Wharfedale has been making loudspeakers for over 75 years and they are a well respected British speaker manufacturer. Their top of the range speakers (the "Airedale Heritage") sell for over £15,000.
Skytronic on the other hand, just assemble their speakers in Belgium, using cheap and low quality components from the Far East. They are more like toys, rather than serious loudspeakers
And you are right about watts - more watts does NOT equal better sound or better speakers. Only a complete hi-fi novice (like your friend) would think that it does. Some of the world's best loudspeakers can be driven by amplifiers of only 15 or 20 watts and still sound awesome.
Stick to your guns. You are right and your friend is wrong - simple as!!
