Can you explain these technical / brand names please?
I'm fine using computers, but I don't keep up-to-date with things like processors, storage devices, graphics cards and all that.
Anyway, I'm thinking of buying a new laptop (a desktop is not practical for me at the moment) but don't know much about processors and stuff. I'm looking to spend under 600GBP so nothing too fancy is necessary.
With all the models offering different processors (Celeron, Duo, Duo extreme, Core, etc etc) I have no idea what's decent. What sort of processor speed will last me 4-6 years? I use my computer for web browsing / movies / downloads / using my ipod / basic publishing / text docs and occasionally a bit of photoshoping. Oh, and I'm happy to run Windows, so (sorry Mac lovers) Macs don't really appeal.
Recommendations / information please technically-minded folks.

there are two catergorys to consider when looking for a laptop,there is portable and desktop replacement
portable concentrate more on portability and uses less powerful components to extend battery life,however modern portable laptops still use intel core 2 duo processors but normally at lower clock speeds(1.6-1.8ghz)
desktop replacement laptops are a different story,they are designed as the name implies to replace your current desktop pc
so since a desktop replacement will be hooked up to the power supply most of the time manufacturers can afford to use more powerful processors and decent graphic chips,plus desktop replacements have desktop sized displays with 17" screens
