fx5 and mag pump for aquarium water change help?
Hi I have a fx5 but not sure how the water change works I know that it has something to do with the purge valve. On another note I heard of the mag pump is a great way to remove water from tank to the sink or tub, but not sure how the mag pump works ?? do I put the pump in the tank and stick tubing to the mag pump while submerge in water and the other end of the tubing to the sink? I have a 175 gallon what mag pump do you recommend ?
The purge valve is used to get the pump going once you turned it off. To clean the fx5, you need to open it up and rinse out the filter pads. The filter media in the baskets really don't need to be cleaned unless they are really filthy. For the mag pump, just flow the output water to your sink or drain using appropriate tubing and your tank will drain. You can also fill your tank by reversing the process from your tub to your aquarium. Any mag pump will do. Some go inside the tank, others are used outside the tank. I use an external pump to do water changes and it works pretty sweet. No more buckets!
