Problem with guitar amp settings?
OK, so, I have a pre-amp here, and it works with vacuum tubes. It has a really nice sound, but the sound isn't really all that old sounding. It is an ENGL model and I am playing through a Line 6 amplifier. The only thing that gives me just almost the sound I want is the upper single-coil pickup of my Stratocaster. Is there any way to achieve an old 60's and 70's sound? Thanks in advance!
I'm a little confused, here. I guess I've never seen an ENGL preamp before, but there's a lot of equipment out there I've never seen before.
I think a lot of what you're missing is in the guitar itself. It sounds like, based on your pickup preference, that you're looking for a thicker sound. It's going to take a full humbucker to give you that, like what you would find on a Gibson or Epiphone Les Paul model.
There are stacked humbucker replacement pickups that you could put in your Strat without hacking it up. They'll get you closer, but they're not exactly the same.
