How do I build a MIC BOOST BOX?
I have looked high and low for a simple device to use with my prosumer camcorder.
Right now, in order to boost the volume of the input for my mic (the sound the camcorder is recording) it is rather cumbersome and easy to make mistakes.
I thought that it would be easy to find such a device that the external mic plugs into and then an output to the mic jack with a simple volume control. Maybe something I attach to my belt, or to the camera itself.
How would I build such a device? Is it as easy as a box, the right value potentiometer and a couple of plugs, or does it take fancy electronics.
I'm adept at electronics, where I lack is the understandings of the limitations of electronics mixing, hardware, mics and related circuits.
Does anyone have any ideas, a web site, a simple circuit and proper value pots, or??
Finally, this is MONO. No need for stereo in this set up.

What you need is called a "mic preamp" and it is a pretty simple circuit but a home made one would be tricky because that type of circuit needs to be sheilded or it will pick up noise very easily.
Just Google "mic preamp circuits".
