I just bought a used Dual CS 530 turntable, and I am just using it to play a record of mine. I plugged it in, and it works perfectly, but in each of the sets of speakers I have, it plays very low. The volume on the speakers is all the way up, but I can barely hear the music. Is there some sort of volume adjustment to these? Please speak simply, I'm new to turntables. Thanks!
That's a nice turntable! I have an old Dual 522 myself. Unfortunately, I'm moving to a smaller place in August and I need to sell it. My main turntable is a Technics SL-1200MKII and I'm going to have to keep that. I think it sounds just a touch cleaner and I can still get parts for it if something goes wrong. I will miss the auto shutoff on the Dual though!
Anyway... You must be talking about powered speakers, like computer speakers or powered monitors? These will work, but turntables require a phono preamp to bring their signal up to normal line-level and to reverse the RIAA EQ curve records are recorded with. The Behringer PP400 is decent sounding for not too much cash. Spending more will get you better sound. The Musical Fidelity V-LPS is very popular in the "budget audiophile" class these days.

If you're in the USA, I could send you a Behringer PP400 for like $10.00 shipped. I bought one just to see how it stacked up to some other phono stages. Surprisingly, it was better than some that cost more. But, I now have a Soundsmith MMP4 and a Jolida JD-9A, so I no longer need it.
