We bought a 27" RCA Flat (tube) Television about 2-3 years ago. We had no problems with it until the other day. It got bumped into the wall from the tv stand and the picture automatically went "out" . All we can see now the blue screen. The t.v does work with the dvd player, so now all we can do is watch movies on it. We redid the cable cord thinking the cord went bad, but still no picture. We tested the cable cord on another t.v. and it worked. Does anyone know what could be wrong with this tv? Can it be fixed? Please help
It is not the input button, and the tv does not need to be on channel 3 because it's not hooked up through a cable box!!! I'm a girl, but not that mechanically stupid! A bump would most likely damage at least the F connector into the TV, It sound like it almost fell over and slam may be a better description.
The fact that a DVD works means the cathode tube, power supply, and video sections are undamaged, it is the tuner section that has issue with maybe a damaged board, to replace not a big deal.
In the meantime use a DVD recorder (with tuner) or VCR hooked up to a set of av ins to bandage the problem until you can have it serviced, if it is a damaged board I would not use it much longer until fixed, as a damaged board can cause shorts and other internal issues.
If the set is not HD you may want to look at this as an opportunity to upgrade to a LCD or Plasma. These would look better have more inputs and be HD. Your repair will be at least $50 US so consider before doing anything.
